About Jochen Zaumseil and L’Oréal

Jochen Zaumseil is the Managing Director of Asia Pacific and a member of the L’Oréal Executive Committee. He began his career at L’Oréal 27 years ago in the international
marketing department of Lancôme in Paris. His journey with the company took him to Austria, Mexico, Germany, Venezuela, Canada and Japan, where he worked for two
years as Country Manager. Jochen Zaumseil has been in Asia for seven years. Under his leadership L’Oréal has doubled its sales in Asia – growing an average of 15% per
year to reach the current sales figure of more than €3 billion. In China alone, he was responsible for a turnover of more than €1 billion last year. The success of L’Oréal is
thanks to long-term, consistent focusing on the specific needs of Asian consumers. In large research laboratories in Japan and China, products are specially developed for
the Asian market and produced on site. Jochen Zaumseil’s aim is to make the continent L’Oréal’s most important sales market.

The jury praised Jochen Zaumseil as a shining example of a successful European management style which he practises every day. In their view he accepts his responsibilities even in the emerging markets of Asia. For this reason L’Oréal was able to present a sustainability report for China alone. Since 2007 this has resulted in a 23 percent drop in energy consumption, a 37 percent reduction in waste production and a 31 percent drop in water consumption.
