Symrise Perfumer Examination 2025 – Young talents present innovative fragrance concepts. Eight young talents successfully passed their final exams at Symrise in June 2025, presenting creative and technically sound fragrance projects. Some achieved the perfumer exam, others the junior perfumer exam – both qualifications mark important milestones in their professional development. Symrise thus underscores its role as an international talent incubator for the fine fragrance industry.
Creative expertise and innovative strength play a decisive role in the fragrance industry
The perfumer exams at Symrise are more than just final exams – they symbolise the transition from profession to vocation. In a festive ceremony at the historic Kerschbaum Villa, CEO Dr Jean-Yves Parisot and senior perfumer Marc vom Ende honoured the achievements of the graduates. Parisot emphasised the importance of creative young talent for the company’s success: ‘Consider your work as perfumers an honorary profession. You shape dreams and at the same time create added value for our customers.’ Symrise thus underscores the central role that creative expertise and innovative strength play in the fragrance industry.

The eight examinees presented their final projects to an interdisciplinary jury consisting of experienced perfumers, HR experts and executives from Global Fragrance & Ingredient Management. The exams were divided into two categories:
Perfumer exam:
- Dominique Wagner analysed high-performance amber notes under regulatory REACh requirements.
- Kevin Kim developed strategies for dealing with new CMR classifications and creative fragrance alternatives.
Junior perfumer exam:
- Lucie Kepler-Bozkurt demonstrated the integration of captives in technical fragrance applications.
- Alicia De Benito Cassadó researched fragrance impact parameters in laundry detergents and developed a fragrance data model for the South African market.
- Attiya Setai focused on the South African raw material buchu and its renaissance. Shangyun Lyu gave the citrus classic yuzu new radiance with modern formulations.
- Christopher Pickel expanded the fragrance base spectrum with innovative Symtrap combinations.
- Gabriela Gerbi researched the future of the classic chypre accord with a focus on natural substances and patchouli variants.
This breadth demonstrates how training at Symrise combines creativity with regulatory and technological knowledge – an important aspect for the development of marketable fragrance creations.
Modular training combines science, craftsmanship and inspiration

Marc vom Ende, Head of the Perfume School, sums up the philosophy: ‘Our training combines science, craftsmanship and inspiration. The masterpieces show how our young talents have learned to combine creative ideas with technical expertise and market understanding.’
Symrise perfumer exam – future viability through targeted talent promotion
The ceremonial presentation of the perfumer certificates on 25 June 2025 marked the symbolic conclusion of the training programme. All graduates passed their exams and can now officially call themselves junior perfumers or perfumers. The event provided an opportunity for exchange and recognition in the presence of mentors and executives. Dr. Jean-Yves Parisot emphasised the importance of cohesion and mutual inspiration: ‘You are the heart of our value creation and the future of Symrise.’
Marc vom Ende: ‘You smell and think in scents. And you never stop learning.’
Marc vom Ende adds: ‘These exams have shown us perspectives for creative solutions and approaches that we can develop further together.’ The graduates themselves see their profession not just as a job, but as a lifestyle: ‘You smell and think in scents. And you never stop learning.’ The perfumer exams at Symrise illustrate how important sound, practical training is for the development of innovative fragrance concepts. The combination of creativity, technological knowledge and international market experience is a decisive factor in the success of developing future-proof fragrance products and securing competitive advantages.
